Music & Me

Hello all! I'm Raine and I'm a transfer/freshman studying Special Education. I was in the Airforce for almost 8 years before I decided to do school full time. I lived in California, South Korea and Japan during my time in, but SC was where I was born and raised.

While books are my home, music is my connection to the world. As I get older my music taste has mostly evolved from just saying "I listen to all music" to actually listening to many, many kinds of music. My music taste have been influenced by so many people. My love for Country (only country from like before 2010), Frank Sinatra, and 70s music all came from my mom. On the other hand I had my brother who had always been a metal head and loved the all encompassing rock genre. He would walk around the house singing Tiny Tim's tiptoe through the tulips (long before Insidious made it creepy) and he grew his hair long so that he could headbang like the guys in bands. I have my partner now who not only influenced what I wanted to pursue for school but who also broadens my taste in music. My lovely partner Savion has the most passion I've seen for music. He's a percussion marching band instructor, a TA at an elementary school, and a drummer in The City Portrait. We have a chunky little corgi named Kiwi.

Music I can't stop listening to:

The Sore Feet Song is the anime intro song to Mushi-shi (Mushi Master). I honestly like the vibes of the song and it's just something that I just kinda find peaceful? Anyways here's the song :)

Music that is meaningful:

For this honestly it is the whole album Away from the Sun by 3 Doors Down. My brother gave me my first CD and it was this album. I listened to it constantly and it really was the driving force behind my taste of music after that. I chose specifically to show Changes from this album as it's one of my favorites and one of their lesser known songs.

Music that I just can't get behind:

Honestly I don’t understand why Taylor Swift is so popular as honestly I feel as though all of her music is the same. All of her country songs were the same vibe/energy/theme and the same goes for her pop music. To me she's just an overrated pop star just like most that are out there.

Music I just want to share:

I will give you a few songs that I've picked up from my travels.

In Korea I found a love for new R&B/Soul. But I also found awesome music that wasn’t just KPOP from a friend I made.

N-Side was my travel anthem. Whenever I was roaming the streets of Seoul I was blasting this song on repeat in my headphones.

In Japan I made an amazing friend (they did my right arm tattoo sleeve) who gave me a name for the music I like but didn’t quite know who or what it was. She got me into industrial Rock

Here are just 2 fun experimental artist.

Here is pet tax. Kiwi in hat.

  1. Hi Raine! I like the name of your blog. I really enjoyed learning about you. I hope you are enjoying Converse so far. I found it really cool that you like 3 doors down. I love Away from the Sun among other songs by them. I have the CD for "The Better Life" and every time my phone dies, I listen to 93.3 The Planet or that CD!

I also agree about Taylor Swift. I don't think all her music sounds the same, in fact I have some of her music on my liked songs, she just isn't my go-to as much as other artists.

  2. Hello Raine! I really enjoyed your blog and getting to know more about you. I think it is cool that you collect CD's because I do as well. I would love to add a 3 Doors Down CD to my collection, I really enjoy their music. I also really enjoy the Steve Lacy song you included; his music is very nostalgic for me!

  3. Hey Raine! I really enjoyed getting to know more about you through your blog and music choices! The most interesting song to me was "The Sore Feet Song" from Mushi-shi, I like how you described it as peaceful, and it definitely gave me a calm and soothing vibe that I wasn't expecting at first.

The song I liked the best was "Changes" by 3 Doors Down, mainly because of the emotions, in the song and the lyrics. I also really enjoyed learning about that it was your brother's gift, that made it way more meaningful and special. I liked most of your song picks and loved the different branches rather than what I normally listen to, although I LOVE me some T-swifty so I would have to say I was a little sad about that. Also, Kiwi in the hat totally made my day—I LOVE corgi's!

  5. Hey Raine! I think your music taste is so cool! My favorite one I listened to was N-side. I love Steve Lacy! I absolutely love Taylor Swift and grew up on her music but I also understand that you do not like her music, its not for everyone! I also agree that Shake it off is well over played and too peppy for me. It gets on my nerves!
